I understand. Structural problems put constraints on our choices. Before this post, I wrote about the structural problems of informal economies in many third world countries which deny the poor property rights, banking, education, and so on. This literally traps them in poverty as much as anything else.

Many attempts at structural reforms actually accomplished little, so I'm trying to guess at the human factors involved.

I like your article for its desire to highlight the larger issues surrounding poverty, but I think you fail to address dome realities of being in poverty. It is not always a decision or a behavior pattern that creates poverty. There are some underlying factors, like lack of family or family support, undiagnosed mental or physical illness, and let us not forget that some people have not been offered the same access to education and health care that others take for granted. I don't make much money, my wife and I make well below the national average income, but hunger or homelessness are not even remote possibilities, since we come from middle class families that are well off. I realize you did address some of these issues, and your article was very good, I just wanted to provide you readers with extra perspective. Keep up the great writing.
